In Response to Molly

My life as a product

When did you realize that what you want to do with your college degree is something you are naturally talented at?

This is a very interesting question.  Although most people who graduate college and come out with a bachelors degree will use it in that field, some may not.    Now I may be straying away from the actual question but I guess the question kind of triggered me into talking about this.  When I came to college four years ago I really had no idea what I wanted to major in, or what I was going to do with my life.  At first I sailed through the core classes and requirements, and settled on psychology my sophomore year.  Little did I know at the time, this is not what I wanted to end up doing, so after a couple classes, I let go of that major.  I like to build things and work with my  hands, and I found the product design major, and that really interested me.  Now as a Senior, and a couple months from coming out with my product design degree, I have changed my mind again, and now see a different path for me once I graduate.  I applied to be an apprentice in the fire sprinkler fitters union, and learn to install fire protection sprinkler systems.  Now I don't see Keene as a waste of time, because regardless of what happens, this degree will always be something I can fall back on and something that can help me in the future.  I guess what my whole point is, is that sometimes you may never find something to do with your college degree, but because of your natural talents and strengths, you may find yourself doing a completely different job or trade once you graduate with your degree.

Advertising Myself with the Four P's of Marketing

If I were to advertise myself as a product, I would first talk about the quality of work I do.  Continuing with the three p's of marketing, I still have to talk about Place, Promotion, and Price.  When talking to the prospective employer, I would talk about how for place, I can cover a lot of areas, always have a vehicle for transportation, and can be in any location.  When I bring up promotion, I will mention that I am good at advertising and will be able to get myself out there.  I will use personal selling and make sure that people know my name.  With price, I have a flexible payment period and a lot of discounts and rebates.  By advertising yourself as a product, how would you sell yourself to a possible employer?

Marketing, Advertising, and Propaganda

The main points of marketing, advertising, and propaganda are to put a product, idea, thought, or way of life out there, and trying to make other people become interested in them.  The difference between them however, is how they do it.  In my opinion, marketing is using positive and negative facts about something, to make people learn and appreciate it.  This may turn them on to it or make them become interested in it.  There is no harm done, and little persuasion.  Advertising however, is more of an attempt to make people fall for a certain item, thought, product, idea, or way of life.  In advertising, more positive information will be given than negative information, if any negative information is given whatsoever.  Because of this, people may not see all the information available and may be lead on.  Propaganda, to me, is an attempt to lead people astray and turn them on to something any way the person wants them to. The person doing the act may tell lies, or talk about negative information on the opposing things.  This will steer the target towards their item or idea.  Propaganda, in my opinion, is more of a negative thing than a positive thing.
Do you think propaganda is bad, or do you think it is just as fair as marketing and advertising?
